What is EdOptions Academy?

EdOptions Academy is a fully accredited, K–12 online school that offers award-winning curriculum, certified teachers and accredited high school diplomas to schools and students who need flexible learning options. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive, flexible online learning environment for today's student. In addition to providing high-quality online private school experience to students and families around the world, EdOptions Academy partners with schools and districts to deliver rigorous, research-based, and pedagogically sound curriculum. Trusted nationally by over 480 partner school districts, EdOptions Academy provides extensive and effective learning solutions to all types of learners. Our fully-accredited virtual school solution allows schools and districts to enhance, expand, and extend their program offerings.



Is EdOptions Academy accredited?

Our online high school is fully accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancED) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This accreditation grants EdOptions Academy the unique ability to offer high school diplomas recognized by schools and colleges across the country and around the world.



Does EdOptions Academy offer high school diplomas or high school credit recovery?

We offer both. Our students can earn a high school diploma or individual high school credits. As an accredited online high school, credits earned at EdOptions Academy are transferable to any other school. Credits earned at other equally accredited high schools are accepted by EdOptions Academy. If enrolling your child in credit recovery courses, we highly suggest getting approval from your child’s school prior to enrolling the student.



How long does it take for a student to finish an online course?

Students are given 18 weeks to complete a (semester-long) course. Our certified teachers and guidance counselors set benchmarks and help students stay on schedule. Diploma seeking high school students have four years from the time of enrollment to meet the pre-set requirements and complete their high school graduation program.



When does EdOptions Academy start?

EdOptions Academy operates year-round, allowing students to register at any time.



How do I enroll my child? How long will it take?

To enroll, complete the online application.

 

  • Parents will complete the online application and upload the required documents. Once the documents are received the process can take up to 3 business days.

Diploma-seeking students:

  • After submitting your EdOptions Academy application, request your official transcripts to be sent from your previous school(s). Copies of IEP's (Individual Education Plans) should also be sent, if applicable. EdOptions Academy will review your application and transcripts and develop your graduation plan. We will then contact you to discuss your graduation requirements and the cost. All diploma-seeking students must take the orientation course before beginning the rest of their coursework. Diploma-seeking students must take the Orientation course, which generally takes three days to complete, before enrolling in their other high school courses.


I only need to make up a half credit of a course; can I take just 1 semester of a course?

Yes, individual courses are available for enrollment.



How much time will I have to complete the course?

Your student will have 18 weeks from the start date to complete the course.



What do I do if I need more than 18 weeks to complete a course?

If a student needs additional time, an extension can be requested. Additional charges may apply.



Once I have completed my courses, will I receive a transcript?

Transcripts are not sent automatically. A transcript may be requested by completing a transcript request form.



Can I earn a diploma through EdOptions Academy?

Yes.



Will I be able to apply to any college with an EdOptions diploma?

Because EdOptions academy is an accredited high school; you will be able to apply to any college. However, you will need to meet the college’s admissions requirements. You should learn more about the college and course requirements prior to applying.



How much time is needed per day?

Students can take courses at their own pace and decide how much time they will spend on a course each day. However, students in grades 6-12 should figure about 40 hours of time per semester course. There is a suggested pacing guide for each course.



Can I see the Syllabus for the courses?

We don’t have the ability to provide syllabi until students are enrolled.



Would EOA accept my child’s IEP/504?

Yes. EdOptions Academy faculty will address accommodations that are reasonable for an online setting. We do not create IEP’s or 504 Plans, the student will need to already have one in place.



Who teaches EdOptions Academy courses?

When students enroll in EdOptions Academy classes, they are assigned certified online teachers to assist with their coursework. Our online teachers help students understand class material and stay on track to achieve their academic goals. All EdOptions Academy teachers are certified in their area of specialization and have at least three years of classroom experience. Our teachers communicate regularly with students through internal e-mail, video conference, chat and use the secure web-based system to manage student grades, assignments, and tests.



How can EdOptions Academy teachers be contacted?

EdOptions Academy teachers communicate regularly with students using built-in online communication tools. Students and parents can e-mail, Instant message, call, or use videoconference to talk live with teachers through the program. Teachers also use the secure web-based system to manage student grades, assignments, and assessments. Parents and students can also contact teachers over the phone by calling the EdOptions Academy office toll-free (866) 890-8153.



How soon will teachers respond to student questions?

Teachers are required to grade student work and respond to student inquiries within 24 hours; however, EdOptions Academy teachers often work directly with each student on a daily basis.



Are online high school courses best-suited for gifted and talented students?

Although we serve many gifted and talented students with a wide range of honors and AP® classes, students of all kinds including at-risk students, special needs students, and those with limited English proficiency, have successfully met their academic goals with our online courses. EdOptions Academy's flexible, prescriptive learning options provide each student with a unique learning path to meet his individual needs.



Are students allowed to access their courses at any time or from anywhere?

Yes. EdOptions Academy is online, allowing students to work on their assignments at times and locations most convenient for them. This type of flexible online learning environment keeps students engaged and accountable for their learning progress and achievement.



How can parents and teachers monitor their student’s progress?

EdOptions Academy students and parents/guardians have twenty-four-hour access to student grades and progress via the learning platform.
